how to
PREPARE MATCHA
Matcha, matcha, matcha. It may look unassuming, but it packs quite the nutrient punch! This cult favorite is well known for being one of the healthiest teas to drink, and is rich in EGCG antioxidants. To make Matcha, green tea leaves are stone ground into a fine powder to be dissolved, so if you love green tea, Matcha is just the next natural step in your tea relationship. The taste of Matcha is as varied as the mother plant, with some strains tasting more buttery or more iodized than the last. But let me tell you, the quest for your perfect Matcha is a rewarding search. Next is the easy part; making it!
• Heat your water to 175° Fahrenheit.
• Pre-heat your Matcha bowl by swirling hot water around your bowl and emptying out the water
• Start off with a one teaspoon per cup ratio of Matcha, and shake into cup using a small strainer. To help with the sifting, you can stir the powder with a bamboo rod to further remove lumps.
• Add ½ tsp of cold water to the Matcha and stir with a bamboo whisk vigorously to make a thick paste.
• Slowly add 2-3 oz of hot water over the paste mixture and whisk vigorously in a zig-zag motion while turning the cup with your whisk-free hand until the mixture becomes frothy.
And that’s it! You have now made the tasty green tea treat you’ve always wanted!
